This winter’s weather was particularly snowy. And we all know how much kids love snow. So it’s no surprise that the Spells tutoring students were inspired to document the fluffy stuff with this magazine, written and photographed in one afternoon.

Wish You a Very Happy Holiday Season!
We’ve had a busy first year at our center in North Philly, and we appreciate all of your support!
Our dedicated volunteers and donors help our organization give the children of Philadelphia a better future through fun literacy-building activities. We look forward to seeing you at tutoring, writing workshops, or fund-raising events in 2011!
During our four-session From Page to Screen workshop at the Painted Bride Art Center this fall, we focused on Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief, the first book in his best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. After watching the film version and participating in a lively discussion about its strengths and weaknesses, the Spells screenwriters tried their hand at adapting extra scenes to make the movie better. These short scenes include toilet bowl swirlies, epic battles, and a celebratory dance party in the underworld. Enjoy!
We'll announce new orientations and training soon! Orientations are generally held on weeknights in Center City, and we are already planning one on Drexel University's campus as well.
