Spells Writing Lab partners with a diverse mix of arts organizations, educational agencies, and out-of-school programs throughout the Philadelphia area. These relationships allow us to spread the word about our programs to new audiences and approach literacy through different lenses. For example, as part of Mayor Nutter’s PhillyGoes2College initiative, Spells hosts free citywide workshops to help high school students write their college application essays.

Spells volunteers also help local schools establish ongoing newspaper programs, dedicated writing rooms, and extracurricular writing workshops, such as the Express Yourself! literary magazine we produce with the Young Scholars Charter Schools.
